I can’t explain it but I LOVE the blues. I love the grittiness of the words. I love the effect that the rhythm has in my soul. It reaches a place in me where nothing else goes. It transports me …at least for a few moments. Sometimes it’s got attitude and sass and sometimes it breaks your heart with sadness. Yep…listening to the blues makes me happy.
One morning I got in my car and the radio was blaring some wonderful blues tune. It took me by surprise. Immediately I melted into the melancholy melody and rhythm. The sheer delight put a smile on my face.
And then I heard the Lord say, “You know how you delight in the blues? That’s how I delight in you!”
WHAT?!?! I make you smile? I bring you joy?
It’s true! He tells His children…
The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17
So many times, my faith has taken on the posture that God is somewhere up there criticizing me or that He’s disappointed in me. But He delights in me!
I’m not saying He loves it when my words discourage others or when I’m more concerned about myself than anything or anyone else. But I know He loves me and He delights in me! I’m His child and I’m learning. He’s working in me and transforming me into His image.
Young Woman,
What do you delight in? What takes your breath away for a second because it brings you so much joy?
Can you see God delighting in you the way you delight in that? Let’s pray right now to see God rightly. Let’s pray to know deep within that God is not criticizing us or disappointed in us. Instead, He is delighting in you! He’s delighting in me! He’s delighting in His children!
He rejoices over you…with His singing!
Now THAT’S delightful!
